Washington, IL: Associate Judge Kate Gorman is announcing her candidacy for the 10th Judicial Circuit Seat vacated by retired Judge John Barra. Judge Glenn Collier was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to serve out the remainder of Judge Barra’s term and will not be running for the seat. Kate Gorman was appointed as an Associate Judge in November 2007, winning nomination out of a group of 44 applicants.
Since taking the bench in November 2007, Judge Gorman has presided over felony and misdemeanor jury and bench trials in domestic violence court. She currently hears Orders of Protection, child support, forcible entry and detainer cases, small claims, adoptions, ordinance violations, and presides over mental health hearings.
Judge Gorman is a Washington, IL native, having attended Central Grade School and Washington Community High School. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois. After her undergraduate studies, she went on to graduate from Southern Illinois University Law School in 1993.
She practiced law with the firm of Prusak & Winne from 1993-2007, where she became a partner in 1999. While practicing law, she consulted on civil matters including civil litigation, family law, real estate, guardianships, adoptions, workers compensation, bankruptcy, foreclosures, appellate work, corporate matters, and probate. She has also been a hearing officer for the Peoria Housing Authority and is a certified mediator. Judge Gorman holds memberships in both the Illinois Bar Association and the Peoria County Bar Assciation.
She is married to Dr. Jim Hubler and together they have two daughters, Ellie (7) and Ava (2). They reside in Washington, Illinois. Judge Gorman and her family look forward to vigorously campaigning for the position, which covers Peoria, Tazewell, Marshall, Stark, and Putnam counties.
